Home to over 70 Barristers in Bristol, St John’s Chambers underwent a massive £500,000 make-over in 2006. The new Chambers are now situated in a 15,000 sq ft top floor location in one of Bristol’s trendiest new office blocks. The project has created a new modern approach to the city’s law chambers.
The aim of the project was to turn tradition on its head and create a contemporary working environment. Tracy Wylde of Wylde Interior Architecture said: ‘We wanted to create a modern design that reflected the traditional values of the Chambers, but which were also friendly and welcoming to staff and visitors.’
To achieve this modern look whilst still retaining its traditional elements, the design used traditional materials such as oak panelling, and employed them in a modern architectural way coupled with bold colours. |

The classic Boss Design Sumo tub chair was specified for the break-out areas. Upholstered in an inviting bright pink fabric, the Sumo chair range added a burst of colour to the break-out space, creating a stylish club-style lounge in a boutique hotel rather than a conventional office space.
Tracy explains; ‘We have designed these areas to be extremely luxurious, convivial and visually attractive by using contemporary soft furnishings, floor standing lamps and eye-catching colours.’
For the work hub and several areas of hot desks, Boss Designs Key task chair was specified. Contemporary in style, comfortable and easy to use, the Key chair was the ideal choice for the fast paced working environment of the Chamber. |
