Boss Design and education work together to demonstrate renewable energy sources to Black Country students.
Dudley seating manufacturer, Boss Design is delighted to be working in partnership with the Dudley Environment Zone and proud sponsors of its wind turbine at Roberts Primary School in Lower Gornal. Boss Design is a proactive local manufacturer and operates a comprehensive Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy with a strong steer towards its social and environmental responsibility. Employing over one-hundred and seventy people at its head office in Dudley, the local employer takes its corporate responsibility very seriously and actively works with the community to minimise any negative impact on the environment. Getting involved with education projects and ensuring a positive legacy for future generations are key priorities at Boss Design. Virginia Seaward, Boss Design, Head of Operations said; ‘We truly believe that education and the environment go hand in hand. Being a design and manufacturing operation we can have a positive impact in this important area. The sponsorship of the wind turbine is just one example of how our company engages with local school projects and the environment.’ |
The Dudley Environment Zone located at Roberts Primary school was purpose built and offers unique facilities being attached to a school. It is one of a kind in the West Midlands. The Zone provides environmental awareness and support to thousands of children across the region every year. The centre’s objective is to help school-children understand and appreciate the natural and built environment. Guy de Szathmary, Environmental Education Officer based at the Ezone, said; ‘The turbine can produce up to 6Kwh at any one time. The electricity is fed directly into the school’s distribution board and used instantly. It produces about 7% of the school’s energy requirements every year. The turbine is a fantastic educational tool. Thanks must also go to the Sustainability Office of Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council for their help.’ Environmental matters are important to Boss Design and being able to play a part in such an important project that not only touches thousands of students each year, but uses a turbine as a symbol to help children play and understand the need to review the use of natural resources is equally important to the company. Virginia concluded; ‘Boss Design is delighted to have assisted the Dudley Environment Zone and we hope to do more. We are planning to help the Zone with a solar power project in the very near future to further aid the education of children in the need for renewable energy sources.’ |
